A new Sensory Room has made its way into Wilton Meadows!

A new sensory room has just been opened at Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, and local media have been reporting on the event. A sensory room is a safe space where people with sensory processing needs can experience a variety of sensory input in a controlled environment. This can help to reduce anxiety and improve communication skills.

Wilton Meadows is a special skilled nursing facility that caters to the needs of its residents. The new sensory room is the latest addition to the health care facility. Creating a space that has a more behavior specific approach to caring for residents with dementia and cognitive impairments. Through communicating with items that provide stimulation, they can have their residents more engaged and provide activities that they can participate in. Keeping their residents busy, with purpose, creates an environment where the residents are more awake and engage more.

The sensory room is designed to offer small person-centered groups which are personally tailored to address their specific needs. This setting provides a nice quality of life for their cognitively impaired residents that have trouble participating in large groups because of how overstimulating that can be for them.

The room is equipped with a variety of sensory stimuli, such as lighting, sounds, textures, and scents, that can be adjusted to provide a calming or stimulating experience. With special features such as a giant bubble wall, aroma therapy, music therapy, and plenty of tactile elements available.

The opening of the sensory room has been met with positive reviews from both residents and staff at Wilton Meadows. The residents have already begun to use the room as a calming space during times of stress.

Join us for a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 439 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT on Wednesday May 29, 2024, at 11:00am. For more information, please contact Kim Philbin at 203-834-0199.
